So September is our mental health awareness month, and many of our stories will feature people overcoming mental health issues or raising awareness of this important, but often not talked about issue.  We start off with a 3rd-grade teacher who has incorporated singing as a way to increase math test performance and journaling to help kids prosper emotionally.  Teresa deep dives into two celebrities raising mental health awareness with Dwayne the Rock Johnson and Olympian and groundbreaking gymnast, Simone Biles.  Teresa also tells the happy-tear story about how a weekend foster care arrangement created an amazing father and son team who are helping others in the foster care system.  You will love this episode.  I get goosebumps just thinking about how much inspiration is packed inside. We would love to hear from you.  Send us your comments or even your own inspirational stories at tangentialinspiration@gmail.com or give us your comments on our website, Tangential-Inspiration.com.

As we move into September, we are going to do a few stories on mental health and mental health awareness.  Mental health is a huge issue worldwide and more needs to be done to help those who are suffering as well as more intervention to help prevent mental illness and eliminate the stigma of mental health issues.   In this episode, we start off with New York's Trash Walker who is bringing awareness to the massive waste going on in our cities and what can be done to divert unused goods from our dumps to those in need.  Then Amy deep dives into Chef David Chang, who has battled mental health throughout his career but has still become a world-renowned chef and restauranteur.  His story is inspiring.  Amy also tells us the story of how singer Jack Johnson is working to clean up the world from plastics and the father-son Ridwell recycling project in Portland, Oregon.  This is a great episode, have a listen and get inspired.

The Olympics may be over, but August is still our Olympics month, and there is still some inspiration to be squeezed out of the Games.  Teresa starts off with the compelling story of the world's fastest blind man and his amazing running partner.  Then Teresa introduces us to a teenage refugee who risked her life fleeing from war-torn Syria, only to find herself become an Olympic swimmer.  Then Amy has two short stories of inspiring rowers.  One rower continues to row, despite his body failing him, becoming a para-athlete Olympic rower.  The second story is about two fun-loving boys who started doing a new rowing sport on a whim, and whim and now are heading off to compete internationally.   There is a quick question and answer session with Amy in dishing some answers.  Come have some fun, learn something new, and leave just a bit more inspired.

So the Olympics have come to a close.  We were definitely inspired by so many of the Olympic stories, both past and present.  This episode is CRAMMED with inspiring athletes.  First, though, Teresa tells the tale of Grandma Gatewood, who in her mid-sixties, hiked the 2,050 mile Appalachian Trail on her own, and followed it up by doing the Oregon Trail by herself!  Amy does a deep dive into Olympic swimming with the relentless spirit of Missy Franklin, who with the support of her parents, found Olympic gold five times!  And with this being the first Olympics featuring skateboarding, Amy covers the amazing young women of skateboarding.  Finally, there is a quick rapid-fire question session with Teresa in the hot seat.  So much inspiration going on here that we just couldn't fit it into 30 minutes!

The Olympics are still going strong, and so is our passion to inspire!  Amy brings us two short stories- Dinner in White and a 96-year-old nurse who just retired after caring for who knows how many thousands of patients.  Teresa sticks with our Olympic Theme with former Olympic Gold Medalist, Scott Hamilton, who is still doing amazing things.  Teresa also covers the Peter Westbrook Foundation, which helps train young kids how to fence with a sword and have self-esteem and confidence for life.  Finally, there are some quick questions for Amy.  Which of the Scooby-Doo gang does Amy most relate with?  Find out while getting inspired!

The Olympics are still going strong and so is the inspiration.  Teresa starts of with Anthill Creations, a non-profit making playgrounds out of upcycled materials in the poorest parts of India.  Next up is a deep dive on Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who despite many family tragedies, focused on improving the lives of special needs individuals and created the Special Olympics as a celebration of what amazing things they can achieve.  Amy digs into the Boys in the Boat, an amazing tale of the US Olympic rowing team as they face challenges on the way to the 1936 Olympics and defy all odds.  We finish up with some rapid fire questions for Teresa, where we learn whether Teresa excelled in ballet (spoiler alert: she did not).  It's a great day to get inspired!
